Sad News
Flash from SNN: "...Jason Bogle died yesterday at his Mother's house in Auburn, Ca.... Jason Bogle was one of Hawaii's top surfers who was fighting a rare type of cancer called, Ewing's Sarcoma which travels under the skin and strikes the bones..." He was 26.

Seems like a new pulse. It was pumping when I first got out. Now it's backed off. It's at least as big as yesterday, about 1-3 with perhaps some 4s.

Where?
So you've read the reports, right? It came up from yesterday. There should be some solid sets, at least that's what I'm thinking. The plan is to surf my usual spot. If it's big it will be closing. But it won'tt be crowded, and hopefully the inside and the in-betweeners will be doable.

Sorry, forgot to post when I got home because I was so into setting up my TV. It took me pretty much the rest of the afternoon and then most of the early evening to get everything squared away.
There were some solid ones today. It was about 1-3 with some 4s. Fun. They're saying it's going to be big tomorrow.

Preamble
So I'm sitting here -- waiting. Waiting for them to deliver my new TV. Sometime between 9:30-11:30. That's what they said. So I sit. And I wait. To pass the time, I write this post.
I'm excited. Considering my modest means, I've spent significant money to create and then upgrade my home theater system. First it was a new center-channel speaker; then new main speakers; then a new A/V amp; a new DVD player; now a new HDTV. I would call my setup high-end consumer/mass market. Definitely not audiophile/videophile. But for watching movies and listening to music it's got the power to kick butt.
The reports are saying the surf in Town has risen from yesterday. That's good. It's going to be packed.

It really seemed like it was building yesterday, and it was much bigger than the previous day. The reports today are saying it came up but not by much. Hmm...strange. I had the feeling it would be overhead and solid. Anyway, I'll be heading to the beach shortly, so I'll find out soon enough.

It's showing signs, no doubt. There were some sets when I first got out, but now the high tide is killing it (at least at my usual spot). Heard there are two swells on the way.

Gonna be leaving soon. Waiting for my friend to call. Planning to meet him at my usual spot. The wind is really blowing outside, and that's good. Hoping it'll be windy and messy so that it's not crowded. I want it like that because that's when wave knowledge and familiarity with the spot become necessary. If you're clueless, then you will be waveless ;-).

Kinda like yesterday. Not bigger as some had said. It was getting better when I left, but my friend had gone in, and I felt obligated not to keep him waiting too long. I wanted to stay out and could've done at least another hour.

One of my good friends just called -- my old surfing partner from way back when --and we're going to hit it together. He lives up in Pacific Heights (I think) and he said there's a lot of whitewater outside of Sand Island. JB, as well, is saying today is bigger.
We'll check my usual spot first. If it's big it won't be crowded because it'll look like it's closing. But I know better. If in fact, though, it is undoable, then I don't know where we'll go. Perhaps Ala Moana Beach Park area? Ricebowl will be a zoo. China Walls? Brown's?

Great Expectations
So yesterday my friend called again in the late afternoon to report that DH was still looking good. He lamented he didn't bring his board so he could paddle out for a second session. It was nice to surf someplace different, but I really did screw up by going to the East-side. Today better be good at my usual spot. I'm planning on hitting it for 3-4 hours to make up for what I missed.

The word from a friend is that DH is good right now, about 2-3 and lining up. A bit soft. Glassy and smooth conditions.

Surfed one of the most well-known and popular right-handers on the East-side. It was small and inconsistent. Just me and my friend -- and about 20 other people. Boring. I was very disappointed. I saw an acquaintance in the water, and he told me that he and his friend drove around from Country and that only Lani's looked decent but that it was packed.

The Plan
I'm up early because we're supposed to hit the East-side this morning. My friend called last night and said we should make the trek and that the waves will be good. I'm not convinced. But I'm willing. The TV weather forecast said it'll be small, and the winds SE. Time for something different for me anyway.

It's fun. The conditions are superb. The waves are small, about 1-2, but it's rippable. And it's so sunny and hot, and the water is nice and warm. It's a great day to be surfing.
I scored a seldom-surfed break near my regular spot. Had it all to myself for a relaxing, stress-free session.

Three-day Crowd
When I paddled out yesterday, I was surprised. I was expecting flatness and instead it was do-able. Conditions were excellent. Of course the sets were very inconsistent, but at least there was something. I hope it's like that today.

My friend is coming over at around 1:00 and we're going to hit it. Supposed to be small. Spoke to one of the team riders as he was driving down the road toward Haleiwa on the way to Nelson's house, and he said the water looked nice and smooth. So conditions are apparently good in Country as of right now. He and Nelson are going to surf Mokuleia-side.

Normalcy (Whatever That Is)
I'm going to surf today with a vengeance. Back to my regular schedule, which means I have to work tonight. I have an optometrist appointment at 2:00, so will try to leave for the beach by 10:00 this morning so that I have at least 3.5 hours for a session. I've been hearing that the previous two days have been real good at around noon, which is my normal time to surf. All I can say is, all kooks out at my regular spot better stay clear.

Afterglow
Gosh, this morning was fun. Better than yesterday. Excellent conditions and good form. Long, rippable walls. At the end of the session on a wave I intended to take all the way in, I collided with a longboarder, but, miraculously, neither of our boards were damaged nor were either of us injured.

What Time Is It?
I am up early-early. Was requested to work one more day with the crew, and today we start at 8:30, so for me to go surfing beforehand I needed to get up earlier than the previous two days.
Yesterday morning was okay. There were waves but it was chocked with longboarders. I had some decent rides, though, that left me relatively satisfied, and although I needed more, the session was enough thankfully to carry me through the day. But I can't wait to go back to my normal routine: sleep in, relax during the morning, head out at around noonish, surf for 2-4 hours.
