Post-session

More wave action than yesterday. Smallish wind-swell pushing in.

Unbelievable

This is shocking: First-time surfers can become paralyzed from something called "surfer's myelopathy."

Tiny with gusty north-y wind. Only for the hardcore.

North Shore

So if you check the photo sites, they've got some great shots of the previous several days. Country has been going off. My friends surfed a spot a few days ago, a place that's one of Nelson's favorites--basically a small-wave lefthander, but the rights can be good, too, as they were on this day--and they said on a 1-10 scale it was 10. Ten?!! As for me, the townie, it's the same old crap. Only have my self to blame because I'm lazy.

I Dunno

Kinda windy and chilly outside. Thinking this is a good day for some indoor recreation, especially considering that the surf is probably junk. We'll see.

Better than yesterday but not by much. Slightly bigger.

I'm Loving It

So far, Movable Type is great. It's so much better than Blogger. It's powerful. And it runs on your own server. That, to me, makes all the difference. Did I mention it runs on your own server?

Still feeling sick. Now it's all in my head, literally. Stuffed-up and congested. I hate it. It ain't gonna keep me out of the water, though.

R & R

No surf for me today. Feeling kinda ill. Got a sore throat and congestion and feeling weak. Yesterday's four go-outs during the event made things worse. It was cold, and I could detect my resistance being sapped. I also have a hurt ankle, lacerated toe, and abrasions on my shin. I'm busted up.

I want to rest so that I don't get full-blown sick. That would be unacceptable because not only would I miss time in the water, but I would be out from my new job, as well. So guess what I'm going to do instead? Go to work early, of course.

BTW, I'm quite satisfied with my showing yesterday. Wish I could've made it to the finals in the Open but . . . can't have everything. I was actually surfing pretty well for a change instead of choking/kooking.

Results

Open: first round, 2nd place, advance; semis, 5th place, eliminated. Senior: first round, 2nd place, advance; finals, 2nd place.

I'm Off . . .

Headed to Haleiwa. Wish me luck--I'm gonna need it.

Tomorrow

So I heard Haleiwa today was about 8 feet and north-y. Because of the direction it wasn't lining up. Only one guy was out: my friend (one of Nelson's team riders). If tomorrow is the same, that is, not enough west or too much north, the form will be junk and it'll be shutting down.

Post-session

Tiny but with great conditions. Perfect for diving--the water is glassy and crystal clear.

The next event scheduled for tomorrow at Haleiwa is on. I'm a little nervous because it might be big (for me).

Oh, The Trouble I've Seen

What a tedious, time-consuming process. This is the new Movable Type platform finally installed correctly.

Okay, for most of the day and night yesterday after I installed, I configured, imported, rebuilt, tweaked, repeated, ad nauseam. It still wouldn't come out right. Finally, early this morning, I decided to start over again. So I deleted everything and then re-uploaded and installed, etc.

And it works! Yippee. Was it worth it? I think so. MT is more robust and better-designed and, most importantly, is running on my hosting server.

Now all I gotta do is make it nicer and more pleasing to the eye by changing the template(s). That'll take some time, but at least the basic work has been completed. I'm relieved.

I had fun. There's something out of the SW, but it's kinda crossed-up. Light (and chilly) SW winds.

Had Enough

Too many bugs and slow server response--those are my complaints about using Blogger for this weblob. For the most part, it's okay, but when those annoying problems happen, no matter how infrequent they may be, it simply becomes intolerable.

Granted, it's free; and they have a large user-base and, therefore, it's surprising how well the platform performs under such loads. But from the user's viewpoint, I want fast and flawless even though I'm not paying anything. Solution: Movable Type.

Movable Type will run on my server (well, not really MY server, but the remote machine on which this Web site is hosted). I'll have to install the software myself and then migrate my old posts over from Blogger. That'll take some time (which I have less and less of with my new job) and effort. But I'm going for it. Perhaps Saturday.
