You Wanted To Know
By the bye, December's event at Makaha was cancelled and all entries automatically forwarded to January, Turtle Bay, which ran. But I no-showed because I absolutely loathe that frickin' place. (My friend said it had been 3-4 ft., but I'm skeptical. No matter: The form must've sucked.)
The next one is going to be at Sunset in February. That's going to be interesting. Then it's Haleiwa. We always have good waves for that one. So the next two events should be good.
Aight? Word.

Pretty much the same except slightly smaller and less wave action (probably due to weaker, but still significant, winds). Several jonesing (desperate) regulars out.

Guess what? It was total crap--no surprise, natch--but it was better than yesterday, and actually I caught several warped/deformed bowl-ages. Non-stop paddling against the current (and wind, resulting in stinging eyes).
Just one of the regulars and me. Waited at home until the clouds broke. Turned out to be very sunny for the entire time (and rest of the day). Initially not too windy, but by the time I left, the SWs were blowing very hard (extremely gusty). Only for the dedicated (read: desperate).

Stay, Go?
Gosh, it's ugly outside. Since it's my day off, should just stay home and take it easy...do some chores, relax and watch a DVD, eat a huge lunch, take a long nap, etc.--you get the idea.
Probably will check it, though, just because really one never "knows." Although, I'd be surprised if it was anything other than total crap.

Small. Initially, nice conditions; then trades started blowing and form worsened somewhat (and rain squalls moved in) making an already marginal situation unacceptable.

Fun at the Right-hander. Good conditions. I think places that can pull in east-y stuff might be getting at least some head-high.

Post-session
Well, whadda y'know? Actually ventured outside of my comfort area. Friend and I surfed Sunset and Chun's.
When we pulled up at Sunset, it wasn't crowded at all, and the conditions/form looked great. It was 3-4 with 5s.
Hadn't been out there in at least 20 years. Yes. 20. Years. I was intimidated. First, I'm the King of Townies. Second, for the other reason. Everyone was on longboards or guns. I think there was one shortboarder. Initially, I thought there was no way I could paddle into the imposing peaks with my 6' 0". Some sets came in, and I half-heartedly stroked and thought, "No way." Finally, I realized I was simply too far out. Once I moved in, I caught two good ones that settled my nerves, and I was fine. Unfortunately, it got very inconsistent and more people came out. And the sun kept disappearing behind the clouds, and it was frickin' cold.
Next stop. When we checked Chun's, there were only five longies out, and they were buoys. It looked small, about 1-2. But since it wasn't crowded, we jumped in.
At the start, it was windy and dribbly. Smallish mush hitting the reef. But soon some sets started coming in that surprised us. It was about 1-3 with 4s. Some of the bigger ones were fun. I even got pounded and pummeled a few times when I took some on the head. I had one really good ride. My board was working awesomely (at Sunset too). But quickly the crowd multiplied, and in no time, it seemed, there were about 20 people. We had our fill and called it a day.
I had fun. It was nice to surf some real waves. And the weather was beautiful: sunny with moderate offshore winds. We stopped off for some early dinner and then headed home. Really a great day off for me.

East-y, some-kind-of-a-something coming in. Waist- to head-high with rare over-headers. Windy and sloppy-looking but much better than it appears. Very fun. Had a blast. Best time I've had in weeks.

Windy, sloppy, cold. But some doable, head-high ones nonetheless. Kinda crowded considering how awful.

Unsightly And Confused
SNN is the worst surfing site. Fo' real--truly, it's poorly designed. It's cluttered and disorganized. Visually, it's atrocious, a real disaster.
Can't you guys do a better job? Obviously you're using a professional to maintain? You should get someone else. Your site is a bloated, tangled mess of graphics, fonts, and colors. What an eyesore. It's something a newbie would create as a project in an introductory class.
What should it be? Well, I'm not a designer and have very limited knowledge and skill in this area, but I can tell you what doesn't work. You should be like Seinfeld's George when he decides that all his life he's been always doing the wrong things and that, therefore, he should start doing the opposite (video clip) because that must be correct. In that regard, if you did as such, then your site would be clean, simple, elegant, uniform, and a pleasure to navigate.

Gong. It's not bigger. Guess yesterday was residual wind swell, the close periods stacking together. Makes sense since it was weak and disorganized, which are classic wind-driven characteristics. Today is extremely sloppy and mixed up.
