Post-session
Long waits but some fun head-high to slightly over-head walls. Empty.
No one was out, I guess, because of the Thunderbirds show? I myself had planned to surf earlier then bike to Waikiki for the show, but I got home late from work last night and slept in, which threw off my morning schedule.
The way I figured it based on the time and the quality of the waves, just when I would want to go in would be right about 2:30. So I resolved to stay out anyway and watch from the water because I probably wouldn't be able to get back home before the start, and I didn't want to cut short my session.
It was an incredible view from the water. Of course, we couldn't see the main show area that is the visual focus of the maneuvers, but the jets were flying right over us. They would come out of the Koko Head direction and sweep in at what looked like less than a hundred feet in altitude just in front of us toward the horizon. They were so close we could clearly see the pilot.
I seemed to be the most excited by the whole thing. A few others were stocked; most people didn't seem to care, which truly shocked me. I caught only two waves then because I was so engrossed with watching. I think they curtailed the show due to the clouds--didn't seem like 45 minutes.
I was so-o jealous of the firemen who were standing on Leahi Point. DH State Monument was closed. But these guys arrived by HFD helicopter and landed on one of the pillboxes. They then climbed onto the roof of the pillared concrete observation platform perched at the very pinnacle of the Point. Can you imagine the view from there? Must've been absolutely stunning.
