Trials and Tribulations
You wouldn't believe what I've been going through of late to get this site back up. Changed hosting providers because I got a good deal for the first year ($9.95) and because the new company is very reputable (so I hear, anyway).
Migrating Movable Type was painful but a great learning experience. And at the same time it gave me an opportunity to upgrade to the newest version. Had to learn about or get reacquainted with SQL databases and shell access and .cgi permissions, etc. All the answers are available online in some form; the trick is knowing how to search for it, that is, how to ask the right questions. One or two words in your search query can mean all the difference between success and thoughts of suicide.
The primary goal was to retain all my posts and not start from scratch. Not that posterity will find my writing valuable, just that it should be doable and I was determined not to be undone.
And so we have done it. The next project is to redesign the rest of the static html pages on the site with a new look because, gosh, is this site looking dated and boring.
Oh, and I did surf today at Ms. Fun. Great last ride. Sunny and hot. Trades are back so it wasn't that crowded. And I wouldn't be myself if I didn't ask: Where were all the kooks surfing?
