Post-session

My gosh, the tiny-ness continues. Repeat of yesterday. BM's was beckoning, but that guy I (and my friend) absolutely despise was out so we opted for Regular. It was so dismally small. Did the far inside but not even the end-corner. Just the middle-ish area just before it completely stops breaking, that's how far in we were sitting. Phew. Someone told me moderate-sized southern groundswell late Friday.

Post-session

Regular. Even tinier. Was gonna do BM's but there was already one guy, which for this kind of day is way too crowded and especially since I knew who it was and find that person particularly loathsome. Did the far, far inside and started snagging consistent wavelets for about an hour when it stopped and pretty much died. I liked it, though, because it was classic late-season. No swell, everyone in school, windy/sloppy, sunny/hot, and empty (plenty parking). No stress. Just me and the board. Simple pleasures.

Post-session

BM's alone. Just when you thought it couldn't get any smaller after you just thought it couldn't get any smaller. It's smaller. Caught a handful of barely-rideable, ankle-snapping, micro wavelets then called it. Regular looked just as bad but with way more people (vs. none). Sunny and hot.

BM's alone. Just when you thought it couldn't get any smaller. Planned for half an hour, stayed an hour. Caught a handful. Barely doable. Summer is fading ("When is the last day of summer?").

BM's with a friend. Tiny and sloppy. Expectations were very low, so after i caught a few decent ones I was satisfied. Nice to be in the water since it's so hot out.

BM's. Slightly smaller and sloppy but doable. Solo and then four jerks invaded. Real idiots. One with a ten-oh that sat on the outside and scooped up anything rideable. Two of his buddies on shortboards snaking me whenever they had the chance. One girl on a longboard not doing much but sitting and paddling around getting in the way. They did their utmost to deny me waves and make me feel unwanted and foreign. It didn't work, but I appreciated the effort (thanks, guys). Then two more guys joined. What's going on? There goes the neighborhood.

Post-session

Late afternoon. Planned on Regular but deviated at the last moment and paddled to BM's when I saw some wave action on the inside. Good call. Much more fun and better stuff than anything I got yesterday. All rights with good angle/direction, decent conditions/form; sunny and hot and the water felt great. Small but had it to myself (so you know I was happy).

Post-session

Regular. Late afternoon. Quick one because had to stay late at work. Tiny but better than expected. A friend had called earlier and reported that it was really, really, really bad. It was doable. Just hovered over the bowl on the inside, end-corner. Everywhere else was choked with people and getting more crowded by the minute.

Afterward up by the car, one of the regulars said we're supposed to get new SW energy today or tomorrow. As already noted, none of the small groundswells I've been told would arrive during the previous few weeks have materialized.

Post-session

Regular. Started on the outside then found solace on the inside, end-corner. One of the longboard regulars was hogging and taking everything (which wasn't much). Friend comes out and says looks good form the cars. I know. But it sucks. Snagged a lot of small insiders but had only one decent ride.

Post-session

Regular. Much smaller but looked doable and lined up with not many people. Scored some decent ones at first on the inside. Then saw a few on the outside and decided to give it a go. That's when it got crowded and the outside died. Nothing, zip, zilch. All of us were forced to paddled to the far inside. Really dismal. Did get a handful of dribblers before going in. Someone said we're supposed to get a new SW today.

Regular. It doesn't look too bad, but it's definitely smaller. Not crowded considering it's the weekend.

One of the regulars just came out and says it's really junk: outside absolutely not happening and inside has gutless slop with no re-forms. I find it to be not so bad, with some doubly insiders. Initially, there are some outside sets, but those quickly stop and I end up at the ol' end-corner bowl. Lots of kids there offering considerable competition and getting in the way.

Post-session

M's with a friend. Many insiders where my friend was having a field day. I stayed on the outside and pretty much got skunked. Friend didn't stay long. That's when it got better with bigger and more consistent sets. Had it to myself and caught a bunch that compensated for earlier. Satisfied.

Late afternoon at Regular. Very crowded. Two kook longboarders trying to dominate. I know everyone was getting irritated. It was the classic scenario: low skill and overly aggressive. Overheard one say he was from Publics. When I heard that I just laughed to myself. The other had gloves, goggles, and a hat. How poetic. It made so much sense that it could be a movie plot. I was just waiting for a chance to drop in and scar the face of the wave in front of one of these idiots, but I never got the chance. I did drop in a few times, but I was pretty far down the line that it didn't make a difference. For the most part, stayed on the end-corner and snagged some sets that swung wide of the main peak where the pack was thick and concentrated.

Regular with a friend. Bigger but windy and sloppy; and weak and slope-y from the high tide. Thankfully, relatively empty--no kooks/regulars to deal with like yesterday. Can't say I had a single good ride, though. But much less stress, so I'll take it.

Post-session

Regular. Crowded. Long, long, long lulls. One-wave "sets." My best ride would've been one where one of the regulars dropped in behind me and I couldn't do full cutbacks to the pit and had to turn and hit out on the shoulder ahead of him. Maddening. He should've just kicked out and let me have the wave because I had been waiting patiently on the outside for a long time and he essentially snaked me. When my tolerance for the kooks reached its limit, I couldn't catch a last one in. Super, f***ing frustrating. Why does this happen to me so frequently? Always have an awful finish.
