Small and dismal, but I had fun. My board was working awesomely. I've been surfing well, especially yesterday and today. What's up with that?

Pretty much like I thought, except the kooks were out in force.

Still Motivated
My friend said it's small. I don’t care (and you know I don't).
Knee- to waist-high, windy, and sloppy but hopefully with some doable bowl-ages. Hot and sunny and not crowded. That's how I envision it.
It's my day off, and I plan to relax and take my time in the water. There's no rush. Make my own fun. Afterward, nice big lunch and a nap. Ah, yes, simple pleasures for a simple (old) man.

Post-session
It's fun. Bigger with over-head sets. Pretty-good form but weak. Inconsistent with long waits. Not crowded.
Actually, it was quite nice because there weren't many people, and the direction/angle was ideal for my regular spot. The water felt great and was a welcome relief from the heat and blazing sun. Pretty relaxing session with some of the regulars.

Encouraging
Just got a call from someone I work with who's not a surfer, and we were discussing a work-related subject. Just before we ended the conversation, he asked me if I had gone surfing yet. I said I was just about to head out the door when he called. He told me in a kind of excited voice that he had seen the Ala Wai boat channel (Bowls) and that it appeared the waves had come up significantly in the last hour. He said it was big. He wondered where the larger surf had come from so suddenly. We'll see.

Bleh
I finished 4th. Just a final--no prelims--with five guys. I had my chances. Someone even gave me a decent wave, and I couldn't catch it. Considering all the preceding heats, ours had a lot of waves. It's smaller than yesterday.

One More Time
Off again to Queen's for the Senior. Will it be flat?

Post-session
About knee- to occasionally chest-high. Windy. Empty at first then more people.

Just Couldn't
Flat with rare knee- to waist high. Open pro-am, seven-man heats. Crazy. Grabbed my ($40) tee-shirt and went home.

Again?
The first event of the new season is at Queen's this morning. I'm thinking it's near flat(?). I was hoping they'd postpone; but no, it's running.
I absolutely loathe competing (battling) in inconsistent, tiny surf. It's very frustrating. Sheer luck plays a large part, it think, in whether you're successful in such a situation. But that assumes, of course, that several other factors remain constant, for instance, that everyone performs at near the same skill/experience level, applies an equal amount of determination and desire, has similar command over the particular spot, etc. In other words, I guess luck doesn't matter as much when you consider other things.

Bigger. I tried to paddle out to my regular spot, but it was shutting down. Went half way and turned around and belly-boarded in. Would call it 2-4 with 5s.
Walked down the beach to the Right-hander. It looked funky but do-able. I'm glad I hit it because I scored. I wasn't the only one, though. There were four other guys. The moderate onshore winds backed off, and the conditions and form got quite nice for about an hour and a half.
I had some good rides, although I was stumbling and clumsy at times. Did do some gratifying bashes and snaps off the top. Had one real memorable off-the-lip where my tail slid out in a 180. I lost my balance and fell off at the bottom. But that was an awesome one.
Then the wind kicked up again, and it got sloppy, and it got crowded. I was completely satisfied. Definitely one of those you-shoulda-been-here-earlier situations.
